a revelation

I met a driving instructor the other day. Driving lessons in SL are conducted in groups. i.e there is one driver under instruction whilst the other learners sit in the back, watching and learning - theoretically at least.

Bypassing my obvious question why hand signals were still being taught I instead asked why SL drivers used an indicator (sometimes called 'flicker') to indicate the width of the vehicle rather than direction of travel. Indicators will be flicked when the road narrows - or, as is often the case, when two or more cars are abreast and heading into oncoming traffic - to show the edge of the vehicle and as such allow evasion action to be taken.

Why is this done? when the edge of the vehicle was painfully obvious...I asked.

Without hesitation he answered "Because those drivers have no brain".

So there it is. Confirmed by a master of driving instruction. SL drivers who use their indicator to indicate how wide their vehicle is are brainless. I kind of thought this anyway but it's always good to have one's understanding confirmed by those who know better.
